The shot was performed on Sunday February 5, 2012 during the Halftime Show of Superbowl XLVI

Standing over 5 feet tall, and made of 75 pool balls and 25 triangles.

Bumper Cars Trick Shot

Welcome back to Chef Anton’s Magical Menu of Pool Ball Wizardry. Thank you for all of your positive comments concerning last month’s delicacy & for your entries into my contest. This next shot is called Bumper Cars.

The set up is quick and simple. Position the cuestick, balls, and triangles as diagrammed. Be sure the one ball is frozen to the rail and the other balls are touching the triangles. Place the cue ball slightly to the right of the one ball.

The secret is to strike the cue ball with high english, aiming to hit the left side of the one ball. The one ball will travel along the cue stick and into the corner pocket. The cue ball will then propel backwards into the first triangle sending the two ball in the side pocket. Now for the beauty of this shot, once the cue ball hits the triangle, the top english will takeover causing the cue ball to dive forward one more time pocketing the three ball in the opposite side. Wow!! If you don’t know the secret of using high english, this shot is impossible.

This shot can be used as a great “betcha” with a friend or as a perfect complement to any trick shot exhibition.

The Teenager Trick Shot

Welcome back to Chef Anton’s Magical Menu of Pool Ball Wizardry. This month’s feature is called The Teenager.

With the balls set up as diagrammed, strike the 1 ball with high left hand english. The 1 ball will go off the rail, ricochet off the triangle and go into the corner pocket. The cue ball banks into the right side of the two (this is imperative) propelling the 2 ball into the far corner pocket and the 3 ball in the side pocket. The cue ball then billiards off the right side of the 2 ball and banks into the 4 ball pocketing the 4 ball into the opposite corner pocket. Viola!!!

Last Pocket 8-Ball Trick Shot

Welcome back to Chef Anton’s Magical Menu of Pool Ball Wizardry. This month’s shot, Last Pocket 8-Ball, is a favorite of mine. It is quick and easy to set up and needs no props other than a cue stick and a triangle. The best aspect of this shot, people of all skill levels can appreciate it.

Set the balls up as diagrammed. Make sure the two ball is frozen to the cue stick and the butt end of the cue stick is frozen to the rail approximately one inch from the side pocket. Lastly, be sure the eight ball is not touching the cue stick.

Shoot the cue ball rail first with high, inside english. When the cue ball hits the stick, the vibration will pocket the one ball. The cue ball will then follow the diagrammed path to pocket the eight ball in the same side pocket.

I like to start the patter with only the balls on the table and then add the cue stick and triangle as the story unfolds. “Three years ago I was playing in the California State 8-Ball Championship. We were playing last pocket 8-ball. For those of you who do not know, when you are playing last pocket 8-ball, whatever pocket you shoot your last ball in, you have to shoot the 8-ball in the same pocket.

In the finals, the score was hill-hill and my shot. I have solids and I have a big smile on my face. Just as I get down to shoot there is a big earthquake, in California that happens a lot. The room starts shaking, and the triangle falls down and lands like this (place the triangle on the table), and my opponent throws his cue on the table (place the cue stick on the table) and when everything settles, the table looks like this.

We call over the tournament director, Jay Helfert, and he says, ‘According to the rules you have to play the balls as they lie on the table.’ The key word in this whole story is lie. So I agree and shoot the ball like this.”
